Friday, 30 October, is the last day for three exhibitions in Burgas, and two more close on Saturday. So make the rounds of the galleries, and save dry Saturday for a walk in nature.
Friday will bring drizzle at 13 to 16 degrees, Saturday is almost dry and calm, up to 15 degrees, and on Sunday the chance of rain is around 50% with wind up to 20 km/h.
Friday: last chance for three exhibitions
Revival-era gold at the Sea Casino
Today is the last day of the "Spirit and Matter" exhibition of goldsmith jewelry and Revival-era prints at the Sea Casino Cultural Center. The items come from the collection of Antonio Vasilev and tell the story of the Bulgarian Revival through jewelry in which masterful craftsmanship is interwoven with faith and symbols. Couples and anyone who loves old crafts will enjoy it.
Burgas through the eyes of a father and daughter
At the Youth Cultural Center, "Stop for Burgas (with a little owl)" by Daniel and Roza Bozhkov closes today. The father was born and raised in the city and paints his childhood memories, while for his daughter Burgas is the place of summer holidays. For five weeks the two worked together here, among the old streets and the verses of Petya Dubarova.
Children's drawings from Burgas and Izmir
Families with children who draw will find the anniversary exhibition with works by 87 young authors from Bulgaria and Turkey at the NHK Cultural Center most suitable. It is the tenth under the name "Bulgaria – Turkey: a Bridge Between Cultures" and closes today. The Bulgarian participants study at a school in Burgas, and the Turkish ones are from a studio in Izmir.
If you work with the sea, security or business, you can stop by the International Congress Center, where today is the second edition of the "Black Sea 2030" forum. It is organized by Burgas Municipality and the "Prospects M" Association.
Saturday: outdoors while it's dry
Saturday is the calmest day, with wind of only about 6 km/h, and is convenient for going outside the city. Near Burgas is the protected area Uzungeren, where wild horses live and the old steppe nature has been preserved. Children usually remember the horses more than any exhibition.
Anyone who wants a longer hike can head to the Dokuzak waterfall near Tsarevo in Strandzha Nature Park. After the rains during the week the trail may be muddy, so wear suitable footwear and take a jacket, because in the morning it is around 11 degrees.
In the afternoon, on the way back, stop by the Sea Casino. Until the end of the day there is the "The Color of Salt" exhibition by Niki Dinov: 24 photographs of the Burgas salt pans at sunset and from a bird's-eye view, printed on panels of 127 by 94 cm. The exhibition is outdoors and admission is free.
Saturday is also the last day for "Babylon" by Zhanina Dubarova in the hall of the Burgas Artists' Society. All the paintings are new, and the artist painted some of them together with her son.
Sunday: rain, National Revival Figures and galleries
1 November is the Day of the National Revival Figures, and on Sunday rain is more likely, so plan the day indoors. A suitable place is the Atelier gallery, where the exhibition "With Burgas in My Heart" with works by 11 artists, dedicated to the holiday, is on display. There are works by Atanas Atanasov, Darina Peeva, Dimo Kolibarov, Elena Kaludova and Ivo Bistrichki, created between 1999 and 2025. The exhibition remains open until 15 November.
Teenagers will like a gallery more easily if there is movement in it. At the Petko Zadgorski Art Gallery, until 4 November, there is the interactive exhibition "Virtual Bodies 3.0", in which paintings and sculptures come to life through dance and digital technologies. For the first time in Burgas, the dance video by the Heteropody company based on "Supper" by Vladimir Dimitrov-the Master, a painting from the gallery's collection, is being shown.
If you have a car and a whole free day, Karnobat is less than an hour away. At the Bencho Obreshkov Art Gallery there are 100 canvases by Atanas Zhekov for the centenary of his birth, paintings and graphic works from different years. The exhibition is open until 24 November, so you can leave it for some later rainy weekend.
On Sunday and on holidays some galleries have shorter hours, so call by phone before you set out.
