Friday, October 23: opera while it rains

Friday evening is for staying indoors. At 19:00 the State Opera presents "La Traviata" with Ilina Mihaylova and Reynaldo Droz. The conductor is Ivan Kozhuharov, and the main roles are also performed by Aleksandar Krunev and Mariya Yurkovskaya. Verdi's opera is based on the novel by Alexandre Dumas fils and tells the story of a love that collides with the prejudices of others.

The performance is suitable for a couple or for parents with older children who will be hearing live opera for the first time. Bring an umbrella for the way back.

Earlier in the afternoon, you can stop by the hall of the Burgas Artists' Society for the exhibition "Babylon" by Zhanina Dubarova. All the works are new and have not been shown before, and the artist made some of them together with her son. She teaches at the Burgas branch of the Academy of Arts, and the exhibition runs until October 31.

Saturday, October 24: Mladost Hall and a crime film at the library

The morning is cool, around 8 degrees and foggy, so take a jacket. Towards noon it warms up and no rain is expected.

For the first time, Bulgaria is hosting a Majorette Sport World Cup. On Saturday, nearly 500 competitors from 9 countries take to Mladost Hall, competing with batons, pompoms and flags. The organizers are Burgas Municipality, the Bulgarian Federation with its president Yulia Mumdzhieva, and the World Federation, headed by Želka Banović. It is suitable for families, especially with children who practice dance.

The afternoon is for being outdoors. In front of the Sea Casino Cultural Center, until October 31 you can see "The Color of Salt" by Niki Dinov: 24 photographs of the Burgas salt pans at sunset and from a bird's-eye view, printed on panels measuring 127 by 94 cm. The photographer has been shooting since 1984.

Inside the building is the exhibition of goldsmith jewelry and Revival-era prints "Spirit and Matter". The items come from the collection of Antonio Vasilev and tell the story of the Revival through the craftsmanship and faith of the old goldsmiths. You can see it until October 30.

In the evening at 18:30, the Peyo K. Yavorov Regional Library screens "Python 357" for free as part of the "Retro Cinema at the Library" series. The hero is police officer Marc Ferro, a reserved man who works alone and has spent years chasing a gang of art thieves. A good plan for a group of friends who love old European films.

Sunday, October 25: last day of the festival and a trip to Karnobat

On Sunday "The Age of Aquarius" ends, the festival of physical and visual theater. This is its 16th edition, troupes from four countries take part, and admission to all events is free. The performances blend theater, dance and puppetry and are staged at the NHK Cultural House, the State Puppet Theater, Sea Casino, the Petko Zadgorski gallery and Studio Dune. The program also includes an art film from the USA.

At the Youth Cultural Center, until October 30, there is the exhibition "Stop for Burgas (with a Little Towel)" by Daniel Bozhkov and his daughter Roza. The father grew up in Burgas and paints memories of his childhood, while for the daughter the city means summer holidays at her grandmother's. The two worked together for five weeks along the old streets, with the poems of Petya Dubarova in mind.

The dry Sunday is also suitable for a trip out of town. In Karnobat, the Bencho Obreshkov gallery shows 100 canvases by Atanas Zhekov for the centenary of his birth, paintings and graphic works from different years. The artist was born in the town in 1926, and the exhibition runs until November 24.

To the south, in Sozopol, is the exhibition "Old Sozopol", which shows what the Revival-era houses in the old town looked like. The fog lifts by noon and a stroll along the waterfront is pleasant at around 17 degrees.
