Artist Zhanina Dubarova opens her solo show "Babylon" on 19 October at the Burgas Artists' Society hall. All the works are new and have not been shown before. She made some of them with her son.
"Babylon" is her fourth solo show. Dubarova studied at the National Academy of Art and now teaches at its Burgas branch. She made the paintings, drawings and collages over the past year. They are arranged in several themed series, all shaped by the influence of children's drawing.
In the joint works she used original drawings her son made at different ages. She put them into the collages unchanged. "Real childhood innocence is so unique that it was collaged just as it is," Dubarova says.
She says "Babylon" brings together different ideas, images, means of expression and "languages". It marks the end of a long road that began with a search for free expression. She believes children have the most freedom when they draw. Children's drawings have always interested her as an artist, and her drive for freedom led her to them. For her, a child's gesture remains an endless source of inspiration.
"A child's pure, expressive gesture, which they use to communicate before they can speak, carries a huge charge," she says.
For Dubarova, a spontaneous mark left by the material is perfect exactly where it appeared and in the form it took. Her compositions come from intuition and feeling.
The opening is at 5:30pm at 22 Aleksandrovska Street. The show runs until 31 October.
