Last Chance for the BFO Photographers
The annual exhibition of Burgas photographers closes on Saturday.
The annual exhibition of the Burgas Photographic Community features over 75 photos by 22 authors. It is displayed in the exhibition hall of the Burgas Artists' Society at 22 Aleksandrovska St. The shots include landscapes, portraits, abstract, documentary and conceptual photography. The hall is a few minutes' walk from Bogoridi and is good for a short visit on Friday afternoon or on Saturday before noon.
The Sea from Two Shores on Canvas
The Georgi Baev Gallery-Museum at 6 Demokratsia Blvd. presents the 28th edition of "Sound and Color" until Thursday, 22 October. The paintings come from a plein-air session along the sea coast and in Strandzha, and admission is free. The plein-air has been held since 1999, so the hall features artists with many years of experience behind them. The exhibition is suitable for a couple who want a quiet hour on Saturday before sitting down for coffee in the center.
Mid-October by the sea means cool mornings and a jacket, so almost everything in this plan is indoors and does not depend on the forecast.
A Sunday Stroll in the Sea Garden
If Sunday is sunny, head to the Sea Casino Cultural Center. In front of the building, until 31 October, is the exhibition "The Color of Salt" by Niki Dinov. The photographer has been shooting since 1984 and here shows the city's salt pans at sunset and from above. The panels are large and can be viewed straight from the alley, which is convenient for families with children in strollers.
Inside the building, until 30 October, "Spirit and Matter. Goldsmithing in the Bulgarian Lands" is open. It features jewelry and prints from the Bulgarian National Revival, in which the master put beauty, faith and symbols alike. The items are from the collection of Antonio Vasilev. Older children who study the Revival at school will see things from their textbook in real life.
Burgas Through the Poems of Petya Dubarova
At the Youth Cultural Center, until 30 October, is "Bus Stop to Burgas (with a little owl)" by Daniel Bozhkov and his daughter Roza. The two spent five weeks in the city among the old streets and Dubarova's poems. The father was born here and returns to his childhood, while for Roza Burgas is the place of summer vacations with her grandparents. The exhibition is a good choice for Saturday if it rains, and especially for people who remember the old center.
The Young Close Their Festival on Saturday
Saturday, 17 October, is the last day of the Young People in the Arts festival "The Deep Blue Sea". It began on Monday with a concert by the guitar ensemble of the National School of Music and Dance Arts "Prof. Pancho Vladigerov" at the National Academy of Art, Burgas branch. Students and pupils take part with paintings, texts, films and music. This year's motto is "The Eurovision Emotion in Burgas", and most of the works are in the visual arts. Burgas Municipality and the academy were also looking for young poets for a literary matinee in the program.
Outside the City: Karnobat and Sozopol
For a Sunday by car, there are two directions.
Karnobat is about 55 km along the road to Sofia. There, the Bencho Obreshkov Art Gallery shows 100 works by Atanas Zhekov on the occasion of the centenary of his birth. The artist was born in the town in 1926, and the halls hold paintings and graphic works from different years. The exhibition runs until 24 November, so you can see it next weekend too if you don't make it now.
To the south, about 30 km away, is Sozopol. In the inner town, the Ethnographic Museum tells about the everyday life of the fishermen and craftsmen of the old town. After the season the streets are quiet, parking is easy, and the walk to the sea wall takes half an hour. For lunch on the way, there are ideas in our article on quick flavors along the Black Sea coast.
