Editorial principles of Burgas Media

At Burgas Media, we believe quality journalism is the foundation of a democratic society. That is why we follow strict editorial standards that keep what we publish accurate, fair and open. Our principles rest on Bulgarian law, the ethical norms of journalism and our duty to the public.

Mission and values

Our mission is to give readers information that is checked, independent and of public interest. We aim for:

  • Objectivity and impartiality
  • Openness and accountability
  • Respect for human dignity and individual rights
  • Freedom of expression, within the law

How our newsroom works

  • Fact-checking: All news and analysis are checked for accuracy, using reliable sources and official information.
  • Editorial independence: Burgas Media does not let political parties, advertisers or corporate interests influence its editorial decisions.
  • Balance of opinion: We give a voice to different points of view. We do not publish content that incites hatred, discrimination or intolerance.
  • Responsibility and corrections: When we find an error, we fix it promptly and note the change in the article.
  • Openness about sources: We try to name the original sources of information, unless doing so would put their life, safety or legal protection at risk.

How we publish

The editorial team reviews all content proposals. An article is approved for publication only after at least two editors have checked it and judged its accuracy, style and ethical acceptability.

The editor-in-chief, or a senior editor he or she appoints, is responsible for the final edit and publication.

Corrections and updates policy

When we find an inaccuracy or error in a published article, we correct it without undue delay. We add a note at the bottom of the article saying a correction was made, with the date and an explanation of what changed.

When a story changes a lot or develops further, we update the article with new information and note the changes.
