Artist Vlado Zapryanov opens his 35th solo show, "We Stay…", today, 3 November, at 6pm. It is in the hall of the Burgas Artists' Society at 22 Aleksandrovska Street and runs until 14 November 2026.

Many of the paintings are new, made especially for Burgas and for the artist's friends in the city. The themes are the sea, freedom, the wind and sadness for the summer that has passed. For Zapryanov, the sea is a place of memory, freedom and human experience.

The title comes from the film "Orchestra Without a Name", in which the characters stay on a deserted seashore. Zapryanov says the musicians stay despite everything, even though the shore is empty. In the same way, he stays on the shore in his mind through his paintings.

"So I decided, through what I lived last summer, to stay on the shore in my mind with my paintings," the artist says.

He says autumn and sadness strengthen the feelings tied to the magic of the sea. The show is dedicated to the people on the shore, to freedom, the wind, autumn and the spirit of the sea. It speaks of attachment to the sea, of lasting memories and of the wish to keep what brings happiness.

"I would be happy if it finds a common point with an audience in love with the endless enigma of the sea," Zapryanov says. His invitation to visitors is "And the heart of summer still beats…". He wants them to find part of their own memories and feelings in the paintings.

Zapryanov was born in Dimitrovgrad. He finished the School of Art in Kazanlak and studied painting at the St Cyril and St Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo. He paints in an expressive style, with rich colours, a free gesture and philosophical undertones. His work has been shown at many solo and group shows in Bulgaria and abroad.

On 12 October, the same hall of the Burgas Artists' Society opened the annual show of the Burgas Photographic Community. It showed more than 75 photos by 22 authors and ran until 17 October.

Zapryanov also showed paintings in Burgas in 2022, with the show "Visible and Invisible".
