A touring exhibition on more than 150 years of children's organisations in Bulgaria will open in Burgas on 29 October, the National Network for Children said. It starts at 2pm in the Petya Dubarova hall of the Sea Casino Cultural Centre.
The exhibition is called "150 Years of Children's Organisations in Bulgaria – History, Lessons and Future". It follows the people and groups who worked for children, from the first women's charities after Bulgaria's liberation in 1878 to today's civic groups. The network has put archive photos, documents, faces and stories on 21 panels.
Visitors will also see the first book of its kind, "Encyclopaedia of Children's Organisations in Bulgaria. Chronicles of a Children's Rights Activist" by Georgi Bogdanov. It covers more than 600 organisations, initiatives, public figures and civic activists who helped shape child policy and children's rights.
The organisers say the aim is to bring back the memory of those who changed childhood in Bulgaria, and to talk about those who work for children today.
The exhibition and the book will visit more than 20 towns and cities across Bulgaria.
