Prosecutor Ginka Chinova of Burgas District Prosecutor's Office spoke to fifth-graders at Dimcho Debelyanov School in Burgas about how to stay safe online, the prosecutor's office said.
The meeting was held on a non-teaching day as part of the education programme "The Judiciary – Informed Choice and Public Trust. Open Courts and Prosecutor's Offices".
Chinova told the children how to protect themselves from online threats and not to give out personal details. They also discussed how to spot a fake profile and what to do if someone bullies them online.
The pupils watched a 10-minute video about real cases involving teenagers, then took part in a lively discussion. They asked questions and shared their own experiences online, related to their daily lives and the choices they make when they talk to people on the internet.
The prosecutor's office said the aim of such meetings is to give pupils more information and help them trust adults, so they can talk openly about their problems. It said the children understood that acting responsibly online means looking after their own safety and respecting others.
At the end, the pupils received a copy of the Constitution, posters and leaflets on the topic, and thanked Chinova. She promised to meet them again.
