Burgas gallery to open show on painter Stoyan Tsanev 80 years after his birth
The exhibition "80 Years – One Life – Episodes" will open on 6 November at the Petko Zadgorski Art Gallery in Burgas, the gallery said. It is dedicated to the painter Stoyan Tsanev (1946–2019) and will be in the hall on the first floor.
The gallery says Tsanev is one of the brightest artists in modern Bulgarian visual art. With the show, it wants to honour his career, his artistic search and his contribution to Bulgarian art and culture.
The artists Prof Stoimen Stoilov and Milko Bozhkov described Tsanev to the Bulgarian news agency BTA as a "phenomenon" and a "breath of fresh air", the author of a "new language" in art.
A chamber concert will be held the same evening. Baritone Assoc Prof Dr Kiril Manolov will sing, with Dr Vasilena Atanasova on piano. The programme includes works by Jules Massenet, Georges Bizet, Alexander Borodin, Giuseppe Verdi and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The Burgas branch of the Prof Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music is behind the concert.
Several exhibitions marked the anniversary earlier this year, BTA reported. In early March, the Prolet gallery in Burgas held a large show of paintings, graphic art and ceramics from private collections. Later that month, the Academia gallery of the National Academy of Art showed "Reflections...", with paintings, graphic art and ceramics from the 1980s to the 2010s. In early October, his works were also shown at the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Berlin.
The concert is part of a partnership between the National Academy of Music and the Petko Zadgorski gallery. The academy's rector, Prof Dr Sava Dimitrov, and the gallery's director, Andrey Yanev, signed a memorandum on it.
