Thracian breastplate from the 4th century BC visits the Historical Museum in Tsarevo

Unique Thracian artifact in Tsarevo

The Municipal Historical Museum in Tsarevo is pleased to present an exceptional exhibit – a Thracian breastplate from the 4th century BC. Crafted from solid iron and silver, with rich gilding, it is a symbol of the craftsmanship of the ancient Thracians.

The breastplate was discovered in 1995 in Tsvyatkova Mogila near Shipka and is part of the collection of the National Historical Museum.

History and symbolism

The breastplate represents a piece of ceremonial protective armor. Its construction is impressive:

• A base made of a solid iron collar in a lunate shape.
• It covers the upper part of the chest and back.
• Decorated with fine ornaments.

Together with it, spears, arrowheads, knives, and a horse skeleton were discovered, which proves that the artifacts belonged to a noble Thracian aristocrat who lived during the second half of the 4th century BC.

Visit the exhibition

The exhibit will be on display at the Historical Museum in Tsarevo until September 7. The guest exhibition is the result of successful cooperation between the Historical Museum in Tsarevo and the National Historical Museum.
