Exchange meetings in Burgas: How to live more sustainably?

Burgas is preparing to host an event that aims to provoke a deep reconsideration of the modern consumerist lifestyle. The second event in the "Swap Meetings" series, organized by the Less is More platform in partnership with the Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation, will be held under the motto "New Directions." The event, scheduled for August 26 (Tuesday) at 6:00 PM, will bring together citizens and guests of the city in the inner courtyard of the NHC Cultural Center, offering them an alternative to the meaningless accumulation of belongings and waste.

The main message is clear: change does not require turning our world upside down, but simply looking in a new direction. The organizers hope that participants will find happiness in more essential things, such as their connection with nature, with loved ones, and with themselves. The event seems particularly relevant in the context of growing environmental awareness and the search for more sustainable solutions in everyday life.

New Directions Towards Nature: "Burgas of Three Lakes and One Sea"

The inspiration for the central theme of the event comes from the Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation, which will present its ambitious initiative, "Burgas of Three Lakes and One Sea." The project offers a vision for connecting the city with its three unique lakes – Vaya, Mandra, and Atanasovsko – through a network of walking and cycling routes. The idea is to create new, accessible opportunities for movement, sports, and exploration of the rich biodiversity in the region, thereby bringing the urban environment and wild nature closer together. The initiative highlights how small changes in habits, such as choosing a bicycle over a car, can lead to great benefits for both the individual and the environment.

Less Waste, More Meaning

As part of the event, partners from TexCycle will once again expand the discussion on the circular economy. They will draw attention to the fate of textile waste after it is discarded in containers. With their presentation, "The Journey of Clothes After the Container," they will show what happens to this waste and will present their collection of upcycled products that breathe new life into old fabrics.

Also, as a special guest, the well-known fashion and interior designer Hristina Kalamova will offer practical tips for building a sustainable and functional wardrobe. She will talk about the basic, essential clothes that everyone should own, how to combine them, and how to achieve a personal style with fewer, but higher quality and more meaningful items.

Swap as an Experience

The event will traditionally conclude with a free clothing swap, which has become its trademark. This time, in addition to women's and men's clothes and accessories, participants will be able to bring bicycle accessories and clothing, which reflects the emphasis on eco-friendly transport. The rules remain the same: everyone can bring up to 10 items in good condition and leave with new finds.

The event is free but requires pre-registration. The organizers emphasize that this is more than just an exchange of belongings – it is an experience that brings a "new perspective" on our attitude towards the world around us and towards ourselves.
