Cinema marathon in Burgas: 24 hours to create a film masterpiece

The eleventh edition of the Burgas International Film Festival (July 20-25) puts the focus on young talents through the ambitious "The Challenge" initiative. Five of the most established creators in Bulgarian cinema – Julian Vergov, Theodore Ushev, Boris Despodov, Nikolay Mutafchiev, and Kristian Georgiev – are taking on the role of mentors to guide the next generation of directors and actors.

"The Challenge" gives a unique chance to young people between the ages of 16 and 23 to turn their ideas into a real film in just 24 hours.

How does the program work?

  • July 24: Masterclasses in directing, producing, screenwriting, and acting at the "Sea Casino" Cultural Center.
  • The main part: The teams have 24 hours to shoot a short film based on a topic drawn by lot.
  • July 25: Official premiere of the productions at the NHK Cultural Center.

The best project will win a cash prize and a direct path to the national competition. The project is realized with the support of the National Film Center and is a testament to the investment in the future of domestic cinema.
