The National Academy of Art (NHA) is awarding Burgas mayor Dimitar Nikolov an honorary doctorate. Its Academic Council made the decision, citing his role in opening the academy's branch in the city in 2018.
The branch is in the renovated Magazia 1 building in the port area. It has lecture rooms, specialist studios and a gallery. Burgas council gives targeted scholarships to students and graduating students there.
Burgas council and the academy will repair the Todor Atanasov graphic arts workshop in the Sea Garden together. The two also run the Children's Art Academy project every year.
Academy graduates and teachers have also worked on projects that shape the look of Burgas. They worked on the Peyo Yavorov regional library and the hall of the Burgas Artists' Society.
On 30 October, academy rector Prof Georgi Yankov presented the Rector's Badge of Honour to Tsarevo mayor Marin Kirov at the Atelier gallery, the academy's branch in Burgas. It was for his support for students in Ahtopol.
Nikolov will receive the honorary doctorate on 10 November at 6pm at the Academy gallery in Sofia.
