Poet Edvin Sugarev will present his new poetry collection in Burgas, in which each poem is written as a direct dialogue with a piece of music. The launch is at the Centre for Contemporary Art and Library on 12 November at 6pm.

Young musicians from the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National School of Music and Performing Arts will play live. Marieta Handzhieva will host the evening.

Each poem is followed by the piece that inspired it, so the book works as both a poetry diary and a music diary. The music behind the verses ranges from classical and jazz to the Armenian duduk, Indian ragas and Mongolian throat singing. What these traditions share in the book is contemplation, spiritual search and shared emotion.

The title comes from the idea of music as a light that guides people through the dark. The book is about the place where poetry and music meet: words sound, and sounds carry meaning beyond the notes. The Znatsi publishing house is bringing it out.

Sugarev has an established place in modern Bulgarian literature. He has also written fiction, journalism and fairy tales.

Of his 31 poetry collections, four have come out in the US, one in Serbia and one in Hungary. His poems have been translated into 11 languages: English, French, German, Italian, Catalan, Hungarian, Czech, Serbian, Turkish, Japanese and Hindi.
