The film "Axis of Life" by director Atanas Hristoskov will be shown at a special screening in Burgas on 14 November at Cinema City. Afterwards, viewers can talk with the crew and spiritual teacher Swami Tirtha, the production team said.
"Axis of Life" is a Bulgarian-Hungarian drama based on Swami Tirtha's book of the same name. The project began when he handed over the book for a film adaptation. Work on the film took more than 10 years.
The story follows a spiritual teacher and his three students as they travel to a shrine in the mountains, where the choice of a successor awaits them. On the way, each of them faces tests of mind, ego and attachment. The trip also becomes a meeting with their inner world.
The film is about the human path, getting to know yourself and finding meaning beyond the noise of everyday life.
The cast includes Dane Lars Simonsen, known from the series "The Bridge", Briton Clive Russell of "Game of Thrones", Italian Marina Suma and Bulgarians Alexander Alexiev, Vladimir Mihaylov and Strezo Stamatovski. Teodora Markova, Nevena Kertova and Georgi Ivanov wrote the script, and Martin Balkanski was director of photography.
Filming took place in Bulgaria and in Cappadocia, Turkey. In Bulgaria, the crew shot at the Belogradchik Rocks, in the Lepenitsa and Prohodna caves near Karlukovo, in the Waterfalls Canyon near Smolyan, on the Devil's Trail, at Karadzhov Kamak and in Tatul.
The film is in English with Bulgarian subtitles.
It had its world premiere in November 2025 at the International Film Festival of India in Goa. In Burgas, it was already shown on 1 November as part of this year's Cinelibri international film and literature festival.
