The Sea Casino cultural centre in Burgas will show three free programmes of animated films on 28 October, World Animation Day.
The screenings are on Wednesday in the Petya Dubarova hall. Each programme lasts one hour, and entry is free.
At 5pm, "Rewind: Landmark Animated Films from the Dawn of World Cinema" features early films from the first years of world cinema. Nikolay Chakarov is the curator.
At 6pm, "Contemporary Bulgarian Student Animation" showcases the animation course at the Krastyo Sarafov National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts (NATFA). Prof. Dr Radostina Neykova is the curator.
At 7pm, the guest is Portugal's MONSTRA International Animation Film Festival, with landmark films from its recent editions. Assoc. Prof. Fernando Galrito chose the selection, and the screenings end at 8pm.
The day falls on 28 October because on that date in 1892, French inventor Émile Reynaud first showed his "Théâtre Optique" in Paris. It is seen as the start of projected moving images.
