Nessebar council is completely renovating the spaces between the apartment blocks in the Vazela district, mayor Nikolay Dimitrov has said. The work covers the streets, parking, lighting, footpaths and green areas.
The district was built more than 50 years ago, and until now work there has mostly meant repairs to separate sections. The new project aims to change the whole area to meet modern requirements and the needs of residents.
Builders are already fully repairing the streets inside the district and laying out a large parking area. The council is also putting in new street lighting, pedestrian zones, and lawns and flower beds with places to rest.
Public areas for rest and sport are still to be built. Under the plan, the residential zones will have a controlled access system, and parking will be by subscription.
"The current renovation will give a new look to one of Nessebar's residential areas, creating a functional, green and comfortable environment for its residents," Dimitrov said.
The mayor said the aim is for the main parts of the urban space to be arranged in harmony and complement each other. He said the council is not carrying out separate repairs piece by piece: the streets, parking, pedestrian spaces, greenery and rest areas are planned as linked parts of a better-ordered environment.
"This model allows the district to be renovated comprehensively," Dimitrov said. He said the council has used the same approach before, in large residential areas.
