Burgas: Architectural Visions for a Sustainable Coastal Future

On August 7, 2025, Burgas will host an extremely significant event that brings together architectural talents and environmental experts around the future of the Black Sea city. The initiative aims to present innovative approaches to urban environment transformation, focusing attention on the unique ecosystems around Atanasovo Lake.

A specially organized exhibition will showcase diploma projects by young architects with international education, offering different perspectives on urban environment development. Among the participants are established professionals with impressive international education, including graduates from prestigious universities such as the Polytechnic University of Milan, the University of Edinburgh, and Wageningen University.

Key projects include large-scale developments exploring the potential of the Burgas region. Anna Zhelezova presents a comprehensive study "Along the Via Pontica Route", which analyzes the ecological heritage of the western Black Sea coast. Kristina Tancheva focuses on innovative solutions for salt ecosystems, and Gloria Marinova presents a project for the interface of the protected zone "Atanasovo Lake".

The event gains additional significance due to two important anniversaries - the 45th anniversary of the Atanasovo Lake Reserve and Burgas' candidacy for European Capital of Culture in 2032. The organizers from the Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation aim to present a comprehensive vision for urban environment development.

The partnership with the Burgas-2032 Foundation and the "Empower Us" project under the Horizon Europe program underscores the international scale of the initiative. The exhibition will be available to visitors at the Regional Library "Peyo Yavorov" until the end of August, providing a unique opportunity to learn about innovative architectural and environmental solutions.

The event is scheduled for 6:30 PM and will offer a platform for discussion, where each participant can share their vision for the future of Burgas. The emphasis is on the delicate interaction between industrial heritage, natural resources, and the city's cultural development.
