New transport prices in Istanbul from July 20

Residents and visitors of Istanbul will have to budget for higher travel costs. Starting July 20, the prices of public transport and taxi services in the metropolis will increase by nearly 10%. The decision was voted on by the Municipal Council on July 17 as a measure against the rising inflation in Turkey.

This is the second consecutive increase for the year, after prices jumped by 20% in February.

Changes in public transport tariffs:

  • Electronic ticket: Now 46.20 liras (instead of 42).
  • Student ticket: Increased to 22.55 liras.
  • Monthly pass: The new price is 3628 liras (67.17 euros).
  • Monthly student pass: Now 653 liras (12.09 euros).

Minibuses and the Marmaray Metro

Route taxis (dolmuş) also saw a 10% increase. A single-stop trip now costs 33.08 liras. The Marmaray underwater metro has also adjusted its tariffs: a short trip now costs 37.40 liras, while the longest distances reach 82.17 liras.

More expensive taxi services

Taxis in the metropolis have also changed their price list:

  • Minimum trip price: 230 liras.
  • Initial fee: 71.94 liras.
  • Price per kilometer: 47.92 liras.
  • Price per hour of waiting: 598.90 liras.

The price increase also affects maritime transport – the ticket price for the Princes' Islands from the Bostancı pier is now 171.89 liras.
