The health ministry has announced the results of a contest to pick the state's representative on the board of University Hospital Burgas. Dr Miroslav Obreykov came first and Dr Kostadin Petkov second.
The health minister opened the contest by order on September 23, 2026. Only these two doctors were allowed to take part.
It had three stages: a check of documents, a review of written plans for the hospital's development, and an interview.
The winner will sign a contract to manage the hospital until December 18, 2028, when the term of the current board ends.
Dr Obreykov has more than 30 years of experience and is a general and abdominal surgeon. Since spring he has led the hospital on an interim basis, after a decision by the general meeting of shareholders. The post fell vacant when the previous director, Dr Vladimir Gonchev, was elected to parliament.
University Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment – Burgas JSC is the largest hospital in south-eastern Bulgaria.
