Head of ViK-Burgas remains in custody on charges of intentional mismanagement

The Burgas District Court imposed the most severe remand measure, "detention in custody," on the executive director of "ViK-Burgas," Tsvetan Mirchev, and the person in charge of business control, Ilcho Boev. Thus, the two remain in custody while the investigation against them continues.

Charges of intentional mismanagement and serious damage

According to the prosecution, Mirchev and Boev have been charged with "intentional mismanagement," with the state prosecution estimating that the damage caused to the state-owned company amounts to nearly "304,000 euros."

According to the prosecution, ViK-Burgas paid funds for the "fictitious cleaning of borehole wells" in the Burgas region – activities that, according to the investigation, were not actually performed.

Report by an employee and witness testimony

The investigation began following a report by "Diyan Shirokov," who claims that as a ViK employee, he was "forced to sign handover protocols" for work not done. Later, his words were "confirmed by other witnesses," the prosecution points out.

Some of the questioned witnesses stated that the irregularities could not have happened "without the knowledge of the executive director," which strengthens the suspicions of knowingly permitted violations in the company's management.

The position of Mirchev and the defense

In the courtroom, Tsvetan Mirchev stated that he "does not accept the charges" and that he "bears no responsibility" for the payments made. According to him, they were made following "duly signed protocols and invoices."

His lawyer, "Petar Dimitrov," described the prosecution's actions as "repression," claiming that his client is being subjected to unjustified pressure and that the charges are not based on sufficient evidence.

The prosecution: the health and lives of the people are at risk

Prosecutor "Kirkov" stated that the case is "particularly serious" because, according to the prosecution, the "health and lives of the people" in the Burgas region are at risk if the borehole facilities were not adequately maintained.

The prosecution insists that the two defendants remain in the remand center until all facts of the case are clarified, and the court accepted their arguments and ordered the detention of Mirchev and Boev.
