Preparation for the 2026 Summer Season: How Bulgaria is preparing for the mass tourist wave?

The Ministry of Tourism held a large-scale coordination meeting with representatives of state and local authorities aimed at assessing the readiness of regional structures for the upcoming 2026 summer season along the Northern Black Sea coast. The meeting, initiated by Minister of Tourism Irena Georgieva, focused on identifying potential issues and developing joint measures to ensure high quality and safety.

Infrastructure and Repairs: The Path to a Better Experience

One of the key highlights during the meeting was the condition of the road network in the region. Representatives of the Road Infrastructure Agency provided important updates:

• Varna - Golden Sands: The renovation, including the construction of a sewage collector, is expected to be completed by May 15.
• Dobrich - Albena: Rehabilitation of the section continues with the aim of improving road safety.

Despite the improvements, challenges remain in waste management, especially in the Golden Sands resort complex, where additional equipment and resources are needed.

"Our goal is to ensure the necessary conditions for the smooth running of the summer season, thereby demonstrating that Bulgaria is a safe and competitive tourist destination..." – stated Minister Georgieva.

Control and Safety: How Will Service Quality Be Maintained?

Various institutions presented their priorities for the coming months:

• CPC: Strict control over pricing and combating unfair commercial practices, including in the online space.
• BFSA: Focus on food safety and control over facilities for children's camps.
• General Labour Inspectorate Executive Agency: Campaign to inspect seasonal employment and working conditions from May 1 to October 30.
• RHI and EMS: Readiness to monitor the quality of seawater, swimming pools, and to provide emergency medical assistance at key locations.
• Ministry of Interior and Border Police: Increased police presence and 24/7 readiness to manage maritime borders.

Future of Tourism: Growth in Bookings

Data from the tourism sector is optimistic. Over the past four weeks, Bulgaria has recorded a 3% increase in bookings, maintaining its position as a preferred destination for family seaside vacations. The Municipality of Varna is also actively working to attract new tourists through large-scale campaigns in the German market.
