MRF MP Kalin Stoyanov has called the detention of the mayors of Sungurlare and Belitsa "an absolute circus and farce". He spoke outside the Court House, where residents of both municipalities gathered to call for the release of Dimitar Gavazov and Radoslav Revanski.

Burgas District Court kept the two mayors in custody a few days ago. The case is now before the appeals court.

Stoyanov, a former interior minister, compared the case with the killing of Iliyan Filipov, a friend of interior minister Demerdzhiev. He said that killing happened about a month ago.

Stoyanov said the man held for the killing is in custody, the harshest measure, because he shot a man dead at point-blank range in cold blood. Against the mayors, he said, there are only guesses that someone, somewhere, was possibly or probably involved in influence peddling.

Stoyanov said he hopes the appeals judges will rule according to their own inner conviction.
