Law enforcement agencies in Azerbaijan conducted a large-scale operation against the local branch of "Sputnik", which deepens the tension between Baku and Moscow after a scandalous police incident in Russia.

The security forces of Azerbaijan conducted a sudden inspection at the regional editorial office of "Sputnik Azerbaijan", which has formally suspended its activities since February. According to local information sources, employees continued to visit the office despite its official closure.

The operation unfolded against the backdrop of escalating diplomatic relations between the two countries. The conflict escalated after Russian law enforcement was accused of killing Azerbaijani citizens during a police operation in Yekaterinburg, which provoked sharp reactions.

The Kremlin tried to soften the tension. Official spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow "regrets the actions of Baku", but at the same time emphasized the desire to preserve good interstate relations.

Peskov clarified that at the moment there are no plans for a meeting between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev, but such a meeting could be organized if necessary. The diplomatic language hints at the possibility of future de-escalation of the situation.
