Hristina Beleva and Petar Milanov, who play as an acoustic duo, will perform in Burgas on 9 November at 7pm. They will present their album "Breath and Roots" ("Dah i koreni"), the Sea Casino Cultural Centre said.
The concert is in the Petya Dubarova hall, and tickets are sold at the door. The two will play Bulgarian folk music, with improvisation on the gadulka and guitar.
The album brings together well-known and lesser-known Bulgarian folk songs. They are the starting point for a dialogue between the guitar and the gadulka, a traditional bowed string instrument. Beleva and Milanov combine traditional melodies, free improvisation and an acoustic sound.
The album was first presented in Studio 1 of Bulgarian National Radio. Burgas is the next stop. The project continues the long creative path the two musicians have shared, and the organisers say the duo is already a recognisable acoustic act between tradition and innovation.
The organisers say each piece shows a different side of Bulgarian musical tradition through the musicians' personal style. They say the two instruments aim to link authentic folk music with a modern voice and leave room for personal interpretation, spontaneity and emotion. The evening will be more than an album launch, they say, because the audience will hear the traditional melodies in a new way.
Petar Milanov has played on a Burgas stage before. In October we wrote about the "Wild Roots" concert at the State Opera in Burgas, where he played guitar and tambura. Tina Beleva played the gadulka in that project.
The programme has 9 pieces, including "Fantasy in Three Folk Pictures", "Nanyakade", "Dance and Maiden", "Northwestern Rhapsody" and "Revelation".
