One of the world's most beloved operettas, "The Gypsy Princess" by Hungarian composer Emmerich Kálmán, will be performed for the first time on the stage of the Burgas Summer Theatre. This was officially announced by the Burgas State Opera, which specified that the open-air premiere for the Burgas audience will take place on August 19.
The production, which is among the newest titles in the cultural institution's repertoire, has already had a successful performance in front of an audience. Its first performance took place in February of this year. Now, as part of the prestigious 18th consecutive Burgas Music Festivals "Emil Chakarov", the work will once again come to life on stage, giving viewers the opportunity to enjoy the classic piece.
The famous conductor Ivan Kozhuharov will be on the podium on August 19. All the artists will recreate the complex but captivating story of love, artistic brilliance, and social conflicts. The lead role of the variety singer Sylva Varescu will be played by mezzo-soprano Ioana Kadiyska, whose stage interpretation promises to be a memorable one. On stage, she will be partnered by the leading soloist of the National Music Theatre "Stefan Makedonski", Penyo Pirozov, who will guest in the role of Edwin – an aristocrat whose heartfelt devotion to Sylva is tested by social norms.
The cast has been carefully selected to fully recreate each character from the operetta. Baritone Yani Nikolov will take on the role of Boni, Sylva's fiancé and an all-time favorite among the dancers, whose character is, however, captivated by the charm of Stasi, played by mezzo-soprano Maria Yurkovskaya. The talented bass Diman Panchev will transform into the writer Feri, whose creative nature is so intertwined with life that he changes the ending of his novel depending on fateful turns. The tenor Miroslav Dimitrov will perform the character of the waiter Mishka, and the soprano Lyudmila Mikhailova will build the detailed character of Edwin's mother.
In addition to the main characters, the production also includes a number of other key figures. Milen Dinolov will perform as the notary Kish, and Petar Tiholov will take on the role of the Prince, husband of Tsilika. Emil Peychev will play the General, who brings important news and pays no less important bills, which adds color and intrigue to the plot.
