Burgas group Petlite is marking its 20th anniversary with a new show about the life of Alexander Georgiev, known as Kodzhakafaliyata and nicknamed "the Father of Burgas", the organiser, Petlite Association Ltd, said.
The show premieres this year. Actor Yordan Sirakov and singer Kristina Doncheva appear as guests.
The organisers call the show a reminder of kindness, compassion, mercy and humanity, and of being ready to reach out to others in a busy age when material things come first. Petlite say small things, good deeds and human closeness count for more than haste and possessions, and the greatest wealth is what a person can give.
Kodzhakafaliyata spent his childhood in the village of Zidarovo, in Burgas region. He lost his father as a boy and could not study. Later, with his brothers, he founded one of the biggest businesses in Burgas and grew rich.
All his life he helped people in need, and he gave money and property to institutions, churches and municipalities. He lived modestly, in a small room with his dog, without show. Shortly before he died, he gave land to poor people who had no home and no money to build one. He also gave money and property for a home where soldiers' children could be raised and educated.
Petlite was set up in 2006 in the former children's home in Burgas, which bears Kodzhakafaliyata's name. Its founder, Georgi Dimitrov, who also grew up in the home, now leads the group.
At first only children from the home took part. Over the years, children who live with their families joined them.
Dimitrov's idea is for children to find their way through the arts, develop their talents and find their place among people more easily. In 20 years, Petlite have given more than 300 solo performances and have worked with well-known Bulgarian performers.
The show "The Father of Burgas" was announced by us in October. It will be staged on 21 November at 7pm in the hall of the NHK Culture House in Burgas. The directors are Georgi Dimitrov and Desislava Skakalova-Dimitrova, and the choreographer is Selin Akar.
In 2009, Dimitrov published the book "To Touch the Dream". In it he describes how he held on to himself and built a life and a family. He also writes about the people he met, his hardships and successes, and the road to creating and developing Petlite.
