Schoolchildren in Burgas have drawn postcards for their peers in Sofia to mark Black Sea Day on 31 October. The Izgrev 1909 chitalishte (community cultural centre), which runs the project "The Sea and the Children", announced this. The project is now in its tenth year.

In October, 60 pupils from the Dr Maria Montessori private language school drew in art studios and made posters and cards in a workshop. The project focuses on the richness and beauty of the Black Sea and the idea of keeping it cleaner.

The cards, called "Postcard from the Sea", are addressed to pupils at Prof Emilian Stanev Secondary School No 2 in Sofia. They will be on show from 28 to 31 October at the Children's Centre of the Sofia City Library, a partner in the project, and will then go to the Sofia children.

In Burgas, the celebration is on 28 October at 11am at the Chengene Skele cultural and tourist complex. Pupils from the Dr Maria Montessori school and from Hristo Botev primary school in the village of Marinka are expected, along with their teachers and guests. The exhibition "My Black Sea" will also open there.

The organisers say the Burgas children are once again ambassadors for a cleaner Black Sea and show their care for it through their cards. The project is backed by Burgas council and has media partners.

On Black Sea Day itself, the pupils taking part will set up an art installation at the Clock.
