A second red container is floating half-submerged off Sinemorets, Burgas regional governor Diko Dikov told BTA. Border police officers are keeping watch on it.

The sea threw the first container onto rocks yesterday, between Arapya beach and the Oasis campsite. The same day, Border Police officers spotted a tank about 2 km off the coast at Ahtopol. Early reports say it came from the same ship.

How it all started: Empty tank spotted floating 2km off Ahtopol

Today the waves pushed the tank towards Sinemorets. Officials think it is probably empty and will tow it away once the sea calms.

Dikov said the second container is either heavy or has taken on water. Where exactly it is will become clear when the sea washes it into a bay, he said, and officials will then decide what to do next.

For now, the rough sea makes it impossible to recover either the containers or the tank. Even heavy machinery cannot pull the first container out. Trying to recover it in these waves would risk the lives and health of officers, the governor said.

Dikov said it is impossible to predict how many containers will float up, how many will reach the Bulgarian coast and how many the current will carry to Turkey.
