Attention: New scam on behalf of the Traffic Police with fake fines

Attention: Dangerous phishing campaign impersonates "Traffic Police"

In recent days, the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Silistra has alerted the public to frequent reports of fraudulent messages sent on behalf of the "Traffic Police". Malicious actors are using email and SMS to mislead citizens.

Important: The Ministry of Interior never sends messages about fines via SMS from foreign numbers with country codes such as +63 or +44.

How does the scam work?

• A message is sent regarding an "unpaid fine or penalty notice".
• Users are prompted to click on a link that leads to a fake website.
• The fraudulent platform imitates the Ministry of Interior's electronic services portal with the aim of stealing personal and banking data.

How to protect yourself?

• Do not open links from suspicious SMS or emails.
• Verify the source: Official institutions do not use personal profiles or foreign numbers for communication.
• Use the official channel: Checking for imposed fines and obligations can only be done through the official Electronic Administrative Services Portal of the Ministry of Interior.

What to do if you have become a victim?

If you have already opened a link or entered data, take the following steps immediately:

• Change all your passwords.
• Contact your bank to block access to your accounts.
• Scan your devices for malicious software.
