The Administrative Court in Varna has initiated a case based on a claim filed by "MBA L Varna" EOOD (formerly the Transport Hospital) against the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) for unpaid nearly 300 thousand euros, the court's press center announced today.
The hospital claims that the NHIF unreasonably refuses to pay for actually performed, reported, and accepted without objections medical activity for the period August - November 2025. This involves 282,784 euros in principal and 7,280 euros in compensation for delay, along with statutory interest. The legality of the "monthly values" (limits) imposed by the fund is also disputed. The claim states that the hospital is obliged to provide medical assistance to anyone in need and cannot refuse admission due to the exhaustion of pre-determined financial limits. The position of "MBA L Varna" is that the refusal to pay for over-limit activity violates the principles of the rule of law and the right to accessible medical care.

This is not the first lawsuit filed by a Varna hospital against the Health Fund. In January, the medical staff of "St. Anna" went on a protest, with their dissatisfaction related to their salaries and the financial policy of the Ministry of Health and the NHIF. At the end of January, the management of "St. Anna" filed a lawsuit against the NHIF for over 525,000 euros.
