An 88-year-old woman in Karnobat gave €600 to a stranger after a phone call about an injured relative, police said. Police have detained a 50-year-old man, a so-called "mule", who was only meant to collect the money and pass it on.

The report was made on Monday, 26 October.

Police said the relative was presented as needing urgent treatment. It is a classic trick used by phone scammers.

The detained man has admitted it. He told officers he was hired through an ad to pick up the money and take it to Balchik.
