Customs officers at the Varna-Zapad checkpoint have seized more than 7.5m screws from China because no anti-dumping duty was paid on them, the Customs Agency said.
The shipment, weighing more than 15.7 tonnes, arrived in a sea container holding 7,502,700 galvanised steel screws for concrete and wood.
A risk analysis flagged it for officers in the Customs Intelligence and Investigation department. They checked the tariff code on the declaration and found that the whole shipment carries an extra anti-dumping duty of 86.5%. The declaration did not list it.
The goods are still being held because the unpaid sums owed to the state are more than 35% of their customs value.
Under the Customs Act, officers will draw up a report on an administrative offence for customs fraud.
