The fashion as an aesthetic catalyst of Bulgarian society in the period 1850-1950.

On June 9, 2025 at 6 pm, the exhibition "Fashion in the Mirror of a Century - 1850 - 1950" will open at the Cultural Center "Morsko Casino" - Burgas. The exhibition, organized by the State Agency "Archives", traces the development of clothing and accessories in Bulgaria during key periods of our modern history. The exhibition includes over 120 photographs and original artifacts, selected from the 29 state archives in the country.

The curator of the exhibition is Adriana Popova, chief expert at the State Agency "Archives", and the artist is Iva Velinova. Separate panels illustrate women's, men's, children's, wedding, court fashion, accessories, uniforms, sports, beach and carnival attire, as well as hairstyles from the mid-19th to the mid-20th century.

Special attention is paid to famous designers such as Pelagia Vidinska and her atelier in the capital, as well as fashion influencers of that time, including Lora Karavelova, Sultana Racho Petrova, Dora Gabe, Elisaveta Bagryana and Yana Yazova. The exhibition shows only a small part of the evidence of the role of fashion as an aesthetic catalyst of Bulgarian society on its path to European growth, which the State Agency "Archives" keeps in its photographic vault.

The exhibition includes artifacts preserved in the State Agency "Archives", which are being shown in Burgas for the first time, and which are from the legacy of the prominent Bulgarian public figure and politician Simeon Radev and his wife, the artist Bistra Vinarova. Additionally, the State Archive - Burgas exhibits original photographs from its collections.

The exhibition "Fashion in the Mirror of a Century - 1850 - 1950" is on display at the KC "Morsko Casino" - Burgas until June 20, 2025, with the assistance of the Municipality of Burgas.
