Mayor of Tsarevo Supports Mayor of Primorsko Against Trout Farm

The mayor of Tsarevo, Marin Kirov, expressed public support for the mayor of Primorsko, Ivan Gaykov, and his team regarding the negative position of the local authorities against an investment intention to build a farm for intensive aquaculture (Black Sea trout) in the Black Sea waters. 

On Facebook, Kirov also expressed support for the fishing communities in the area, as well as for representatives of the tourism business, who, according to him, would be affected by the potential implementation of the project. According to him, the local residents learned about the investment intention from media publications, without a preliminary information campaign being conducted by the investor.

The Ministry of Environment and Water issued a decision on March 5, 2026, not to conduct an environmental impact assessment for the investment proposal "Construction of a farm for intensive aquaculture, Black Sea trout in the Black Sea waters, Primorsko", whose submitter is "Amergos Black Sea" Ltd.

The municipal administration in Primorsko also announced the decision on March 9, as a BTA check showed. 

The investment intention was submitted to the environmental department in November 2025. According to the submitted notification, the project envisages the construction of an installation of floating net cages for intensive breeding of trout species of fish in the sea waters near Primorsko. The document states that the facility should include main and emergency cages, a pontoon system, automated feeders and equipment for monitoring water quality.

The installation itself should be located about 4.5 kilometers from the city's coastal alley and over five kilometers from the main beach strips of the resort, according to the stated investment intention. 

According to the position of the mayor of Tsarevo, such business initiatives should be consistent with the specifics of the coastal municipalities, whose economic development is mainly related to tourism and traditional fishing. He points out that the local authorities are not against the development of the blue economy, but insist that projects in the marine area be implemented after public dialogue and a clear assessment of the possible effects on the local economy and the environment.
