The intense summer creative season of the State Opera – Burgas reaches its exciting coda with the "Angels and Demons" opera gala. The grand event is scheduled for Thursday, September 3rd, starting at 8:00 PM on the stage of the Summer Theater. This new musical project, conducted by Prof. Dr. Ivaylo Krinchev, is the final significant appearance in the playbill of the "Emil Chakarov" Burgas Music Festival 2026.

The evening's program includes the official ceremony for the presentation of the "Emil Chakarov" award prior to the main opera gala. The prestigious distinction is awarded to the distinguished Bulgarian opera singer and soloist of the Burgas Opera, Yoana Zhelezcheva. She is an artist with a powerful stage presence, captivating her admirers with her rich timbre and noble charisma, establishing herself as a modern sorceress of the operatic art.

Zhelezcheva's rich creative biography includes unforgettable portrayals in a number of iconic roles that prove her class: Aida, Tosca, Abigail, Leonora, Madame Butterfly, Norma, Amelia, Odabella, Lady Macbeth, Micaëla, Manon Lescaut, Elisabeth, Liù, Santuzza, and others.

The "Angels and Demons" performance itself is conceived as a dramatic journey through key musical archetypes embodying the conflict between Good and Evil. The concept is based on fragments from classical masterpieces by composers Gounod, Verdi, Puccini, Mozart, and Boito. The performance will feature the choir conducted by Alexander Chepanov, the orchestra of the State Opera – Burgas with concertmasters Vanya Zlateva and Hristo Belchev, as well as distinguished soloists: Yoana Zhelezcheva (soprano), Marjan Jovanoski (baritone), and guest performer Deyan Vachkov (bass). An important highlight is the fact that this year, the renowned bass Deyan Vachkov and Yoana Zhelezcheva celebrate 25 years on the musical stage.

Marjan Jovanoski, who is also part of the gala evening, is a soloist with the State Opera – Burgas and the National Opera and Ballet of the Republic of North Macedonia. His professional path is closely linked to the great bass Nicola Ghiuselev, under whose guidance he perfected his opera technique for two years.
