The partial state of emergency in the municipality of Sozopol will be lifted today. This was announced by Mayor Tihomir Yanakiev.

As of Saturday at noon, by order of Yanakiev, a partial state of emergency was declared on the territory of the village of Zidarevo. The reason is difficult access due to damaged infrastructure after the heavy rains on St. Nicholas Day.

There were extremely critical situations in several places in the municipalities of Burgas, Primorsko and Sozopol.

“When we start work, we will first receive the field reports from the mayor of the village. But in any case, what we know from yesterday is that the situation is normalizing,” explained the mayor of Sozopol.

According to him, 9 houses were damaged, but the infrastructure of the village is the most affected. “The damages are subject to analysis and then we will submit our reports to the Disaster and Accident Commission.”

“We are all talking about climate change, which is happening before our eyes. But no one wants to believe that it will affect them as well. The weather is becoming more and more extreme – 15-20 degrees in August with heavy rainfall with thunderstorms, long droughts in the summer with fires. We must be prepared for this,” says Yanakiev.

He explained that the village of Zidarevo has the most ravines in the municipality. “We took preventive measures at the insistence of the mayor. Most of the ravines in the village were cleaned, concrete beds were made on some of them, so that we can have better water conductivity if it comes. So we are taking the preventive measures step by step.”

“I think that here we must work together, hand in hand with the state. And it must understand that these disasters represent an extremely complex situation for the municipalities,” he commented.
