Over the past week, the Market Price Index (MPI), which tracks wholesale food prices in the country, recorded an increase. The index rose by 0.4 percent, reaching 2.284 points, compared to 2.275 points the previous week. The State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Markets (SCCEM) reminds that the base level of the index of 1.000 points was set in 2005.

The vegetable sector shows dynamic changes, with the most significant price surge seen in tomatoes, which rose by 27.55 percent to 1.25 euros per kilogram. Zucchini also became more expensive, with a price increase of 11.69 percent to 0.86 euros per kilogram. Carrots also recorded growth of 3.98 percent, reaching 0.79 euros per kilogram. At the same time, price decreases were observed for:

  • green peppers – by 9.65 percent to 1.03 euros per kilogram;
  • red peppers – by 9.73 percent to 1.15 euros per kilogram;
  • dry onions – by 9.68 percent to 0.56 euros per kilogram;
  • cucumbers – by 5.56 percent to 1.19 euros per kilogram;
  • potatoes – by 5.93 percent to 0.58 euros per kilogram;
  • cabbage – by 1.85 percent to 0.53 euros per kilogram.

For the fruits tracked by the SCCEM, there is a general downward trend. The most significant decline is recorded in lemons, which became 12.62 percent cheaper, down to 1.80 euros per kilogram. The prices of other fruits are also trending downward: peaches by 5.65 percent to 1.17 euros, apricots by 2.61 percent to 1.12 euros, and apples by 0.88 percent to 1.13 euros per kilogram.

Dairy products show mixed price trends. Fresh milk has become significantly more expensive – up by 26.96 percent to 1.46 euros per liter, while yogurt (3 percent fat or more) is 5.48 percent more expensive, reaching 0.77 euros for a 400-gram tub. The price of butter (125-gram pack) marked a growth of 6.12 percent to 1.56 euros per piece, and the "Vitosha" type yellow cheese increased slightly by 0.22 percent to 9.18 euros per kilogram. Meanwhile, white brined cheese is being sold for 0.65 percent less, at a price of 6.16 euros per kilogram.

Regarding meat products and eggs, the situation is as follows: frozen chicken remains stable at 3.65 euros per kilogram, while eggs (size M) became 5 percent cheaper, down to 0.19 euros per piece wholesale.

The following changes were observed among basic food products:

  • sugar – increased by 4.6 percent to 0.91 euros per kilogram;
  • type 500 flour – increased by 7.69 percent to 0.70 euros per kilogram;
  • dry beans – increased by 0.95 percent to 2.13 euros per kilogram;
  • rice – decreased by 1.81 percent to 1.63 euros per kilogram;
  • sunflower oil – the price decreased by 2.30 percent to 1.70 euros per liter;
  • lentils – decreased by 1.93 percent to 2.03 euros per kilogram.
