A woman from one of the families that founded the Meden Rudnik district in Burgas has turned 100. Staff from the Social Patronage service brought her gifts and a greeting from mayor Dimitar Nikolov.

Her family were refugees from Western Thrace. They settled in 1913 in a place called Sulu Dere, now Meden Rudnik.

Her father gave land for the Nayden Gerov school and lived to 104.

She has two children, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

"I love people. My heart opens when I look at them. I also love to look at the birds, the flowers and the grass," she told Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).

She says the secret of a long life is to remember only the good. She wished that others could reach her age with only good memories.
