The Mayor of Burgas, Dimitar Nikolov, has submitted a report to the Municipal Council for the installation of a commemorative plaque with a relief image of the prominent artist Todor Atanasov (1928–1985). The initiative aims to honor his contribution to the city's cultural life and his active work in preserving the architectural appearance of "Old Burgas".

"Preserve Old Burgas!" – one of the creator's last messages, which remains as a testament for future generations.

Who is Todor Atanasov?

• Director of the City Art Gallery (1967–1973).
• Founder of the Graphic Base in Burgas, which now bears his name.
• Initiator of the international sculpture symposium in the city.
• Honorary citizen of Burgas (posthumously since 2007).

Project details

The memorial plaque will be made of stone, measuring 50 by 75 cm, and will be placed on the corner of "Aleko Bogoridi" and "Peyo Yavorov" streets. It is important to note that the implementation will be financed entirely by the artist's family, without funds from the municipal budget.

Given the building's status as part of the cultural heritage, the project is yet to be coordinated with the National Institute for Immovable Cultural Heritage (NICH) and the Ministry of Culture.
