An appeals court in Burgas will decide today whether Belitsa mayor Radoslav Revanski and Sungurlare mayor Dimitar Gavazov stay in custody. Both have appealed against the detention order.

Organised crime police (GDBOP) and the State Security Agency (DANS) arrested the two men on 20 and 21 October in raids on the town halls in Belitsa and Sungurlare. Prosecutors asked for them to be held on Thursday, 22 October, and the district court ordered their detention days ago.

Where it began: Prosecutors seek arrest of mayors of Sungurlare and Belitsa

Both are charged with conspiracy to trade in influence between 2024 and 2026.

Investigators say the case involves public contracts in Sungurlare municipality worth about 7m euros.
