Some 450 girls and young women from 9 countries will compete tomorrow in the Majorette Sport World Cup at the Mladost hall in Burgas. Yulia Mumdzhieva, president of the Bulgarian Majorette Sport Federation, told Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) Burgas.
At 10:00 am all the teams will come on stage for the opening. Mayor Dimitar Nikolov and deputy mayor Manol Todorov will attend.
The competitors are split into age groups. The youngest are 8.
International judges from the World Majorette Sport Federation will score the routines, among them its president Zelka Banovic. Five Bulgarian judges will also take part.
This is the first time Bulgaria has hosted such a large event, and the organisers are pleased, Mumdzhieva said. The Bulgarian federation has existed for a year and holds a licence from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, she added.
The Bulgarian and World federations are organising the tournament together with Burgas Municipality. Mumdzhieva, the Bulgarian federation's vice president Reneta Kamberova and Zelka Banovic all helped bring it to Burgas.
Mumdzhieva says the tournament is a dress rehearsal for the European championship. "Next year we won the right to host a European championship, and we expect more than 4,000 majorettes from all over Europe," she said.
