Strongmen from Bulgaria and Romania will compete in Burgas on Saturday, 24 October, in round 13 of the Bulgarian national strongman championship. The contest is on Troikata square and starts at 2pm, organisers said.

The round is part of the national campaign "The Strong Against Drugs", which links sport with a call for a healthy life free of addiction.

Romania's Robert Martin, who is ranked in the world's top 20, will take part. He narrowly beat the Bulgarians in the last two contests. His countryman Vladut Angeloi is also coming. For the hosts, it is a chance to get revenge in front of their own crowd.

Bulgaria will be represented by Stanimir Todorov and Ivan Mryankov, both from Peshtera, Borislav Bonev from Yambol, Hristiyan Delchev from Plovdiv and Dimitar Dimitrov from Stara Zagora, who makes his debut.

Burgas athlete Yuri Bozhanov will not compete because of personal commitments. Other established athletes are missing because of injuries or because they are preparing for international contests.

Sponsors have planned games with prizes and surprises for spectators.

There are six events. The athletes will pull a 3.5-tonne truck from a seated position over sloping ground and carry a yoke with two girls as extra weight. They will also lift a 120kg metal log overhead, flip a 420kg tyre, do a car deadlift and lift the Atlas stone.
