Cartoonists will open their studios to the public on 5, 6 and 7 November in Chernomorets and Sozopol. The open days are part of the third "Chernomorets Laughs" festival, which runs from 1 to 10 November 2026.
Sozopol municipality, the Chernomorets mayoralty and the Imeon Balkani Foundation organise the festival, and the Ministry of Culture funds it. The programme also includes an open-air creative workshop with cartoonists.
The first meeting is on 5 November at the "Dimo Nikolov – 1908" chitalishte (community cultural centre) in Chernomorets. From 2pm, the artists will be in the square or in the chitalishte, showing how they work and talking about the art of cartoons.
At 4.30pm the same day, an exhibition called "What Do They Laugh At in the Balkans?" opens, with cartoons by well-known artists from Balkan countries. The participants will also be introduced.
On 6 November, the festival moves to the "Otets Paisiy – 1896" chitalishte in Sozopol. From 11am to 1pm, residents and visitors can meet the cartoonists, who will draw caricatures and cartoons. From 2pm to 6pm, there is an open meeting with the public. The artists will show how a humorous drawing is born, using themes from Sozopol and its local colour, and will discuss humour in art as a kind of emotional therapy.
On 7 November, the festival returns to the chitalishte in Chernomorets. From 11am to 1pm, the cartoonists will work in front of onlookers, from the first idea to the finished drawing.
From 2pm to 4pm, works made during the festival will be on show, and visitors can talk to the artists about modern humour and cartoons.
The exhibition "What Do They Laugh At in the Balkans?" stays in the chitalishte until the end of November.
