Writer Ivan Skevin will present his new book "Dirty Dances" at 5.30pm on Tuesday, 3 November, at the Sea Casino Cultural Centre in Burgas. Entry is free.
The launch will be an evening of literature and music in the Georgi Baev Hall. The duo Anna Boyanova and Emil Kalev will provide the music. The book is published by the Ab publishing studio.
The event announcement says "Dirty Dances" asks readers to look beneath the surface, at human thought, feelings and the ties between people. The title has several meanings. It points to the contradictions within a person, to truth set against appearance, and to personal beliefs set against reality.
In the book, the world is a place where everyone has their own "dance". Sometimes a person dances it on purpose. At other times circumstances, fears and self-deception lead the way. The author looks for the link between personal experience and questions of meaning, choice and responsibility.
According to the announcement, the book makes readers think about weaknesses, masks and uncomfortable truths. It invites them to draw their own reading from the text and to talk with the author. The evening is devoted to the written word, creative exchange and a shared experience of art.
Skevin is a steady presence in today's literary life. He writes prose but is also linked to poetry. His work often returns to human nature, memory and the complex bond between the individual and the world.
On 17 October, in the same Georgi Baev Hall at the Sea Casino, Ina Ivanova and Diana Savateva read poems to a full house. The evening was part of the 30th Autumn Literary Festival. Ivanova has won the Hristo Fotev National Poetry Prize.
Skevin has held an award from the national Hristo Fotev poetry competition since 2016, the year his book "A Foretold Message" came out. Before it he published "Rakov Dol – The Lost Connection" (2014). After it came "The Guardians of the Dead City" (2019) and "A Confused Novel" (2025).
