A reader, Stefka, contacted the BurgasMedia editorial team to express her concern about smoking on the beaches of Burgas. According to her, this creates discomfort for visitors and leads to sand being littered with cigarette butts.

“We came to the beach to enjoy the sea air, but instead we’re breathing cigarette smoke. Even near small children, people smoke without anyone saying anything,” Stefka says.

“The cigarette butts remain in the sand, and later we end up kicking them with our feet. This is not acceptable for a resort city like Burgas.”

“I’m not against smokers, but there should be designated areas for them. That way, we can all respect each other,” she adds.

In Bulgaria, there are already bans on smoking in public places such as parks and playgrounds, but there is no unified policy regarding beaches. Some Black Sea municipalities have introduced smoking areas, while others have not taken specific action.

👉 What do you think? Should smoking on Burgas beaches be banned completely, or should there be designated smoking zones?
