Greek businessman Prof. Joachim Kalamaris, who in 2024 filed a report that he had been a victim of extortion and racketeering by a group connected to the murdered Martin Bojanov–The Notary, shared new details about the case on national television.

He described the schemes against him as part of the activities of a well-organized and "untouchable" group. "These people ordered hits on us over time; they are not just powerful, they are untouchable," declared Kalamaris.

The businessman revealed that at one point, he received a direct signal about the threat against him. "A friend invited me, showed me my business card, and on it was written – 'take him out'," he further recounted.

Kalamaris is a representative in Bulgaria for foreign investors linked to the interests of Greek shipping tycoon and entrepreneur John Coumantaros. According to him, they were pursued and blackmailed by Martin Bojanov–The Notary and his circle.

The businessman explained that he had a contract with investors to build a residential complex. In the course of the project, a neighbor appeared and began filing a series of complaints against the future construction. At the same time, the investor withdrew without fulfilling the previously made commitments.

"At the preliminary contract level, we appeared as fraudsters for something that someone else did not fulfill," Kalamaris clarified, emphasizing that the situation had been turned against him.

He recounted that over time he began to notice "strange things" – the involvement of people connected to fuel smuggling, large companies engaged in vote-buying, structures involved in marijuana trafficking, and activities in the energy sector.

In this context, Kalamaris received charges from the prosecution, a pre-trial measure with a cash bail, and a travel ban. He realized it was a scheme related to The Notary when "certain individuals" began to appear, offering out-of-court settlements.

When asked who these intermediaries were, the businessman replied: "Many people. Bojanov sent emissaries."

"Bojanov is the only one who clearly 'paid the bill' so that the tracks of this gang could be covered. That is why his assassination was apparently necessary; he was the main center-forward," added Kalamaris.

He emphasized that the neighbor who filed the complaints against the project and the co-investors used the same lawyer – The Notary's partner, Velimir Atanasov (a former judge from the Sofia District Court, pointed to as being extremely close to the then-head of the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office, Nevena Zartova).

Kalamaris also recounted what is happening on the legal front today. According to him, he successfully sued the prosecution in the first instance for unlawful charges for 50,000 BGN, but in the second instance, the amount was reduced to 25,000 BGN.

"At the third [instance], we might even lose and have to pay something ourselves," he commented. "Of those people who were removed – high-ranking magistrates – all of them are either at work or have retired. There is no one guilty. For a year now, we have been filing complaints against the individuals who caused us problems. And the prosecution keeps closing the cases," the businessman further recounted.

"The prosecution has information about written correspondence and physical communications between the lawyer and the person Nevena Zartova. He visited the prosecution, went to banquets, together with The Notary," added Kalamaris.

He also explained that he lost two buildings in Sofia through an extortion scheme, emphasizing that such actions would not be possible without support at a higher level. "For these people to be able to commit their crimes so ostentatiously, there is political backing," declared the businessman.
