High risk of wildfires in Greece: What you need to know?

Public broadcaster ERT reports a critical fire safety situation in Greece today. An orange alert is in effect for a number of popular destinations, including the islands of Crete, Chios, Samos, Ikaria, Kos, and Kalymnos.

Civil Protection is on full alert, and authorities are urging local residents and tourists to exercise maximum vigilance.

Basic prevention rules:

  • Avoid outdoor activities that could cause a spark or fire (lighting fires, discarding cigarette butts).
  • Follow the latest updates from local authorities and the Civil Protection service.
  • If you spot smoke or flames, immediately report it to the emergency number 112.

The situation remains dynamic due to high temperatures and a dry climate, which create conditions for the rapid spread of potential fires.
