Moldovans and Migrants Detained at Diga Checkpoint in Burgas

On October 16th, around 10:00 PM, a tense situation unfolded at the border checkpoint (BCP) "Digata", located in the Burgas region. Officers from the First Regional Police Department - Burgas, responsible for the entry and exit regime, initiated a check on a "BMW 5" car registered in France. Behind the wheel was a 32-year-old Moldovan citizen, and his compatriot, aged 28, was also in the car.

The atmosphere at the BCP was tense, with the continuous movement of vehicles and strict surveillance by the police. The driver of the car was subjected to a test for alcohol and narcotic substances. The results of the first sample were negative, but the second sample gave a positive result for the use of amphetamine. As a result, the Moldovan citizen was detained with an arrest warrant for up to 24 hours.

While the police were conducting the check on the "BMW 5", officers noticed a strange situation about 100 meters from them, in the direction of the village of Tvarditsa. A "Peugeot Expert" cargo van, also with French registration, had stopped on the roadway with its hazard lights on. The engine of the van was turned off, and the driver's cabin was empty. Upon inspection of the luggage compartment, the police found 11 people who identified themselves as Moroccans, aged between 25 and 37. They were detained with police orders for up to 24 hours.

In the subsequent actions of the police, including with the help of a police dog, it was established that the driver of the van was the 28-year-old Moldovan citizen, a companion of the detained 32-year-old driver of the "BMW 5". It seems that the "BMW" acted as a pilot car, actively monitoring the BCP. When the driver of the van noticed the checks, he stopped the vehicle with the refugees. He then transferred to the car, hoping, together with his companion, to pass the check unnoticed, avoiding detention for human trafficking. A pre-trial investigation has been initiated in the First Regional Police Department - Burgas.
