Sofia City Court put off the appeal trial of Vasil Mihaylov, known as "the prosecutor's son", until 16 December because he has no lawyer.

Mihaylov dropped his defence lawyer and has not yet found a new one. The case cannot go on without a defence lawyer.

The three-judge panel gave him a last chance to arrange his defence. If the case is delayed through his fault or his lawyer's, the court will appoint one for him.

Prosecutors and the private accusers asked for a court-appointed lawyer and objected to opening the hearing today. They say Mihaylov is stalling the trial. He denied this and said he wants the Bulgarian cases finished sooner so he can defend himself in Greece.

The case follows an appeal and a protest against the first-instance verdict. In April 2025, that court sentenced him to 4 years for several beatings and a death threat. Mihaylov faces other cases and investigations too.

In May, after months of searching for him, the Chief Directorate for Combating Organised Crime caught him in a raid.

A week ago, Kyustendil District Court approved carrying out a European arrest warrant issued by Greek judicial authorities. In Greece, Mihaylov is under investigation over 6 crimes he is suspected of committing in August 2025 in the Nea Irakleia area. According to the case files, the charges are taking part in an organised criminal group, armed robberies and causing serious bodily harm.

The Kyustendil court ruled that he should be handed over to Greece only after the pending criminal cases in Bulgaria end and he serves any sentences here.
